LANTERN SAFETY

Theatre Lanterns are designed to light stage areas, as such they are fitted with high power lamps and the following safety points should be observed;

  1. The lanterns will become very hot during use.
    • DO NOT COVER ANY LANTERN or OBSTRUCT THE LENS
  2. The lightbeam is also Hot
    • DO NOT PLACE ANY MATERIALS WITHIN THE SAFETY ZONE;
      • 500W Lanterns Minimum clearance 1M
      • 1000W Lanterns Minimum clearance 1.5M
      • NB. See minimum clearances specified by the manufacturer of your Lantern.
  3. When focusing a lantern use protective gloves.
  4. Stage Lanterns MUST be tested for electrical safety, but the operator should inspect the lantern before use.
    If there is any sign of damage
    • DO NOT CONNECT OR USE
  5. Always isolate supply before attempting to service or move a Lantern,
    • ALWAYS UNPLUG THE LANTERN AS A DIMMER WILL HAVE VOLTAGE PRESENT EVEN WHEN THE CHANNEL IS OFF
  6. Ensure the lantern is correctly installed, most lanterns are designed to operate with the lamp base down.
    • MAXIMUM ANGLE UP OR DOWN 85 DEGREES FROM HORIZONTAL
  7. Ensure a safety chain is fitted to the Lantern
  8. When Using Gobo's The gobo will become red hot.
    • LEAVE TO COOL BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO REMOVE
  9. Before using any equipment that you have not previously operated ask a qualified technician to demonstrate the equipment and explain its safe use.
